“The Minister of Foreign Affairs Wants a Ceasefire without Hamas; a Wedding without a Bride. We Deceive Ourselves by Insisting Not to Negotiate Indirectly or Directly with Hamas”
M.K. Haim Oron (Jumas), Chairman of the New Movement- Meretz Party in a talk before IDC - the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya: "The Minister of Foreign Affairs wants a ceasefire without Hamas; a wedding without a bride. We deceive ourselves by insisting not to negotiate indirectly or directly with Hamas. Hamas is talking with the Egyptians today, and tomorrow Amos Gilad is in Egypt to discuss with the Egyptians what Hamas said the previous day. We must stop playing games. Our latest agreement was with Hamas and so will also be the negotiations for the release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Have no doubt, I condemn Hamas and believe it harms us, the Palestinians and the entire world. The question is not how much to condemn Hamas, but how are we are going to deal with it. I believe that attacking Hamas over and over again will not solve the situation. In the end, any ceasefire agreement will be made indirectly or directly with Hamas.”
