New Movement-Meretz Chair, M.K Haim Oron (Jumas) met with Prime Minister Olmert at December 29th, 2008 and demanded that he do everything possible to achieve a fast ceasefire in the fighting in Gaza, whether by direct negotiations or through international mediation.
According to M.K. Oron, renewal of the ceasefire is the only way to assure quiet in the Israeli communities near Gaza, achieve the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit and end the mutual bloodletting. Stopping the incursion now will prevent Israel's sinking in the Gazan mud, disintegration of the Arab coalition and collapse of the Palestinian Authority.
